Motivation for Training
Motivation is key to a successful training program. Unfortunately, you can’t buy, rent, or borrow it – it has to come from within. Motivation comes from finding your own meaningful reasons for exercising. Here are a few ideas that might help inspire you:
- Work out with other people (group classes, challenges)
- Join a club, class or team where you can learn, help others, and get involved
- Schedule a fitness or charity event for a cause that really matters to you to participate in
- Schedule specific times for working out, and record them in your schedule
- Find a workout buddy to share your journey with
- Monitor your progress on a regular basis with technology
- Hire a Personal Trainer or coach to help you along the way
Be realistic: match your commitment to your goals, with your ability and other demands in your life.

The human energy system is an amazing machine, we can burn fat or sugar. Your job is to keep your energy system in good working order and keep it from getting clogged up with triglycerides and carbon and other toxins that will breakdown your body. We have all seen amazing feats of human endurance and strength, so we know what our bodies are capable of when tuned to perfection. We have also seen when we don’t care for our bodies what illness and destruction can occur from preventable illness. Modern medicine has given a false hope we can ignore our health choices and just get surgery to protect us from the health effects of neglecting our health. Exercise looks daunting at times and takes lots of precious time, but the reality is exercise can actually create more productivity and efficiency. The bigger the engine (energy capacity) the more horsepower you can muster especially on those really challenging tasks. Wouldn’t it be great if you had one more gear to go to when you are feeling exhausted. That’s what exercise does for you, it increases the amount of energy your body can produce and recover quicker after? Tired of being tired? Time to change the equation: exercise every day and watch your capacity to cope increase with each workout.

The bigger the portion, the more we will eat—upward of 30 percent more. Food marketers know this, so they supersize our portions as a way to get us to buy more. But we don’t have to supersize portions at home, and shouldn’t. One researcher found that simply switching from a twelve-inch to a ten-inch dinner plate caused people to reduce their consumption by 22 percent.
